AAW: Ngoma

March 8, 2016 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Ngoma is the Kongo word for “drum” and also the term used by certain Bantu-speaking Africans to indicate a musical instrument. In Uganda, ngoma is commonly thought to have originated from there, specifically from the Baganda people who use ngoma as a form of celebration and communication. Authentic ngoma are made from wood and covered with cow skin. They come in all shapes and sizes, each drum producing it’s own unique voice within an ensemble. Come experience with members of the University of Waterloo African Students’ Association the sounds of the Baganda people through the drumming of ngoma.
